Placement Requirements

A group of business students discuss a project in the Burkhiser Technology Complex

CSC uses your high school GPA to place you into the appropriate level of English in your first semester. This is completes as follows:

HS GPA CSC Course/s
3.0 or higher SLO English (as required for degree) Essential Studies Credit.

2.99 or lower ENG 111 Intro to College Writing (3 credits) Elective Credit.

*Students with transfer credit in English will likely be exempt from ENG 111 placement.

All students placed in to ENG 111 will be able to take (online) placement testing in English if they feel that this placement is not accurate.

Most incoming students (freshmen and transfers) will be required to complete a Math Placement Test (MPT). This requirement can be waived for students meeting the following criteria:

  • ACT Math score of 20+ or 520 on the SAT
  • Math college credit (successfully passed)
  • AP Calculus or AP Statistics with a score of 3 or higher

Students may be in TSP courses (ENG 111/MATH 101/MATH 102) for Math, English, or both. All students enrolled in ENG 111 (3 credits) and/or MATH 101 are recommended to take FYI 169AK (Topic: First Year Experience).
